With UMC being a Southwest Regional Transplant Center, 75% of transplant patients are from out-of-town. Costs for evaluation, relocation, housing, and transportation create financial challenges, in addition to the expense of life-long immuno-suppression medications. Most transplant patients/recipients and their families are unaware of the exorbitant costs.
Financial Challenges Facing Transplant Patients:
- Prescription costs could average $5000 out -of-pocket per month
- Medicare Part D donut hole – $4550 (2010)
- UMC transplant evaluation is a minimum required stay of one week
- Local housing is required for a minimum of 3 months post-transplant
- Transportation costsĀ required trips to UMC for monitoring and follow-up care
Those who have gone through the transplant process wish to honor the legacy of their donors by paying it forward. Your tax-deductible donation will change a personal challenge into a success story.
